Check your MMRV (Measles, mumps, rubella and varicella) antibody level as an adult

I have had both shots of the MMRV vaccine, however, my latest blood work shows that I am vulnerable to varicella-zoster virus (the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles). If your antibodies against one of these four viruses (Measles, mumps, rubella and varicella) are low, you will need a booster shot.

Before your plan to conceive, it is important to have these antibodies checked because maternal infection of any of the MMRV viruses can cause fetal abnormalities. Another reason for this is that MMRV is not to be used in pregnant women due to the viability of the live (attenuated) virus in the vaccine.

The majority of pregnant women that got rubella infection in the first trimester will end up with fetal abnormalities.

Visit a doctor as soon as you suspect to be exposed to measles, mumps, rubella, or varicella. Before any symptom develops, you might be able to get passive immunity by getting antibodies intravenously.

My latest blood work shows (-) IgG against VZV.
